Reasons for negative economic variance of 820 million in EV
Asked by Mohit Mangal, Sentrum
Management directly attributed the variance to equity market fall and UL exposure.
Read the exchange
My first question is on the economic variance in the EV work. So it's about 820 million negative. So could you just spell out the reasons for the same?
The main reason for this is actually the equity reduction. So the fall in equity markets. So that has resulted in the UL because the good proportion of UL is invested in equity.
Split of economic variance between equity and debt
Asked by Mohit Mangal, Sentrum
Management provided a clear split, confirming equity as the main driver.
Read the exchange
And if you can just split between equity and debt that would be very helpful.
The reduction is mostly coming from the equity side. On the debt side... they mostly cancel out... the bigger impact is coming from equity, the debt side is very marginal.
Future VNB margin trajectory and GST impact in FY27-28
Asked by Mohit Mangal, Sentrum
Management gave a specific VNB margin guidance of 22-23% for next year.
Read the exchange
How do you see this kind of panning out say in financial year 2728... do you see the VNB margin increasing and the impact of GST decreasing?
We have rebased the margin now... we don't see that it is going to further impact... we expect that the margin is expected to grow from the current level... It will be around 22 to 23% range.
Agency channel performance and product mix

Management provided specific numbers and a target for agency contribution.
Read the exchange
Wanted to know a little bit as to what they are selling... how has been the response.
We have done well in the first six months... the quantum of businesses that we've done now is 14 crores... looking at close to 5% contribution coming from agency over next three years.
Rider attachment rate on ULIP policies
Asked by Mohit Mangal, Sentrum
Management gave both NOP and premium-based attachment rates.
Read the exchange
If you can spell out the rider attachment rate.
It's about 70% on the UL based unit link policies... in terms of NOP base number of customers... in premium terms it is around 5% of the total premium.
Impact of HSBC stake increase and DFS open architecture statement
Asked by Anita, Value Partners
Management declined to comment on both topics, citing speculation and lack of details.
Read the exchange
Media reports that HSBC might increase its stakes... and the statement from the DFS secretary with regards to open architecture.
On the first question, it's a media speculation and as a company we don't comment on media speculation. On the second question... we haven't got any kind of details further from the DFS or regulator.
Product mix difference between HSBC and Canara Bank branches
Asked by Anita, Value Partners
Management provided specific product mix percentages for both channels.
Read the exchange
What will be the difference in terms of the product mix at HSBC branch versus the Canara Bank branch?
In HSBC... unit link proportion is around 60% or so and in Canara bank UL proportion again would be in the range of about 50%.
Why VNB margin guidance is 22-23% when adjusted for GST it is 25%
Asked by Sankit Goda, Aventus Park
Management explained the components that bridge the adjusted margin to the guided range.
Read the exchange
If I add back the GST impact and labor code impact, honestly you are closer to 25 and you guided that the number will be more 22-23. So is it not fair to say that the real number is more closer to 25?
In this 22.4, there is also a benefit which we have got from the yield curve... which might not repeat itself... plus there is a full-blown impact of the agency growth which will be a negative strain.
Reason for large operating variance of 130 crores in EV walk
Asked by Sankit Goda, Aventus Park
Management attributed the variance to opex efficiencies and volume growth.
Read the exchange
Operating variance number seems to be meaningfully very big around 130 crores in the EV walk... just wanted to understand where it came from.
It's largely because of the opex efficiencies... the per policy cost is improving and that is flowing into a positive operating variance.
Capital adequacy and need for future capital raise given growth plans
Asked by Sankit Goda, Aventus Park
Management confirmed current solvency is sufficient and provided a path for future capital if needed.
Read the exchange
Whether it will trigger some kind of capital raise or you think this 190 is good enough to take care of this current growth rate of 20% plus?
190 includes a sub debt... solvency is going to go back upward of 200%... that will be sufficient for us to write additional protection business... as and when we will be requiring more capital we will be again evaluating.
Drivers of 340 bps positive business impact in VNB walk
Asked by Nishin Chawat, Kep
Management clearly listed the three drivers of the margin improvement.
Read the exchange
When I look at the business impact of around 340 basis points positive... this largely reflects the growth in protection business right or is there any other change?
I would attribute it to primary three reasons: increase in protection, high rider attachment at about 70%, and the red lights and PTP mix.
Product segments driving growth and interest rate sensitivity
Asked by Swarnab Mukharji, 361 Capital
Management provided product mix strategy and explained the reduction in interest rate sensitivity.
Read the exchange
Which segments do you anticipate will be the major driver of the growth? And the sensitivity numbers in embedded value from FY25 to FY26 have dropped.
Our overall strategy is very clear that we want a very balanced product mix which would mean roughly 50% ULIP and 50% traditional. On sensitivity, we've been increasing the duration of our assets and hedging ratio.
