Bear-case history

Risks carried through the record.

Gross Margin Compression from Revenue Mix Shift

GP margins declined to 12.7% in Q3 from 14%+ due to GST-driven shift toward lower-margin entry-level vehicles and higher CV mix. Q4 expected at 13-13.5%, full recovery to 14-15% by Q1-Q2 FY27 only.

Interest Cost Guidance Miss

Management had guided interest cost would halve, but Q3 saw flat finance costs due to higher average inventory holding (90 days in Q2) despite month-end reductions. Benefit now expected from Q4 FY26 onwards as inventory normalized to 19 days.

medium

Supply Constraints on High-Demand Entry-Level Models

Maruti Espresso, Swift, and Baleno models facing supply shortage with 400-500 unfulfilled orders. Management expects supply normalization by March-April 2026, potentially limiting upside if OEM production doesn't ramp up as expected.

EV Business Structurally Lower Margins

Ather EV segment has significantly lower margins than ICE vehicle business. As EV penetration rises (target 30% by 2030), blended margins could face structural pressure unless offset by higher-margin luxury/aftermarket segments.

low

Leadership Transition Risk

CEO Raj Nair tendered his resignation during the call to pursue an opportunity outside the industry. As a key contributor to the company's growth journey, his departure creates uncertainty around execution of the FY27 turnaround plan and strategic direction.

high

Sustained Profitability Uncertainty

Company has reported losses in 5 out of 6 recent quarters. Management projects sustainable profitability only from Q2 FY27, implying Q1 FY27 will still be loss-making. The gap vs peers who recovered faster raises execution concerns.

high

Service Volume Decline

PV service volumes declined 14% YoY in Q4 and 12% for full year, despite 14% ASP growth. Running repair volumes dropped 17-18%. While management attributes this to strategic focus on higher-value work and market conditions, sustained volume decline risks long-term customer retention and aftermarket revenue.

medium

Acquisition Integration Costs

Telangana operations alone contributed negative ~₹26-27 crore to annual results due to IND-AS impacts and lower volumes. Though management expects operational profitability by year-end, the path to profitability in new geographies remains unproven.
